Aamchi Aussie

Overwhelmed by the support his team received in Mumbai, Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne made sure he didn’t forget his fans after their famous victory over Chennai Superkings in the IPL final last night.

After Graeme Smith triggered the celebrations in the dressing room, popping open a champagne bottle, Warne came out to the steps of the dressing room to greet the cheering fans and threw them his gloves, pads and Royals T-shirt. The team continued the party after returning to their hotel.

Warne was also part of one of the decisive moments of the match. Just one ball to go for the final over and Royals needed 12 runs. The skipper, like umpteen times in his remarkable career, won the moment of the match for his team with a four through the covers off Makhaya Ntini.

No doubt he was delighted with his effort. Walking past the wicket after the match on way to the media conference, Warne made an instinctive stop at the crease and enacted the decisive cover drive (backing away to a good length ball and smacking it through the covers), while muttering a commentary “12 off seven balls and Warne hits a four. It is eight off six balls now… I love it, mate. I love it.”

Warne has enjoyed many highs in his career, including the ‘ball of the century’ he bowled to castle Mike Gatting from around his stumps. “This four is right up there (with my best moments),” said Warne.
