On the Ran-Deep trail

The Ran-Deep romance (for all those who came in late, we are referring to Ranbir and Deepika) is today one of the most sizzling stories in Bollywood. But if one goes back a bit in time, the love story actually blossomed like a 70s on-screen romance. He belonged to the most distinguished families of tinsel town where elegance, style and class are passed on from one generation to another. So we have Ranbir Kapoor, a very soft-spoken and charming mama’s boy. A la Rishi Kapoor in Bobby, he falls for a girl from a well-to-do family who has been brought up on strong middle-class values.

Look no further but Ms Deepika Padukone, the daughter of ace badminton champion Prakash Padukone who took to modeling to make it big on her own. And as fate would have it, the two young hearts intersect at a junction called Bollywood. And when they meet, love happens. But then, of course the story has to have its share of twist and turns.

So when the disciplinarian mama Neetu Singh saw her son falling head-over-heels with the gorgeous beauty, she pulled the reins and Ranbir was packed away to Bhansali’s school for Saawariya. What followed were rumours of a link-up between Ranbir and his co-star Sonam, who also hailed from an equally filmy background and was supposed to be a promising star in the making.
